Triple-Double, Marshall Coach Search, Stadium Watch, and GOTW

It was the first ever for Marshall University, at least with the modern stat categories anyway. Who better than seven foot freshman, Hassan Whiteside to do it too?

Since stepping onto campus, Hassan Whiteside has been the talk of the basketball program and for good reason. Bringing the post presence that Marshall has lacked for the past few seasons, Whiteside bolsters the Herd's abilities in the paint complementing Baines and Wilkerson down low.

Although, the seven footer also possesses a range that is uncommon in players his size, able to cover the court quickly and is a viable shooting threat at any range.

With 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting, and a free throw, Whiteside led all scorers against Division II Brescia out of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference of the NAIA. Whiteside also added a record breaking 11 blocks, two more than his previous record, along with a game high 14 rebounds.

Following Whiteside, the Herd had a record breaking 17 blocks and shot 61% during the contest to put away the Bearcats by a final score of 105 to 54.

So I was hoping for Butch Jones to be the next Marshall Football Head Coach, and this is what I get for getting my hopes up. Cincinatti came calling and Jones answered, the Bearcats have the school on speed dial apparently since their last coach came from there as well. ESPN reports.

But wait, there's more...

The coaching search continued, and much closer to home than Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Try Morgantown, West Virginia, more specifically the campus of West Virginia University.

You know, the instate rivals...

Specifically, Associate Head Coach, Tightends and Fullbacks Coach, and Recruiting Coordinator, Doc Holliday.

Wait, what? Yeah it's true. Not only is it true, but the Charleston Daily Mail reports thatit's a done deal.

If this is the truth, then it's the biggest coup since 1776, and it legitimizes the "rivalry" overnight. Not to mention the fact that Holliday is a prolific recruiter. The only down side is there's a rumor WVU Secondary Coach Steve Dunlap would be coming with him to be Defensive Coordinator. We tried the Dunlap experiment in 2007, when he was the Defensive Coordinator for the Herd, it didn't go well.

Then again perhaps we can just chalk that up to Snyder, I know I will.

Stadium Watch: 10:17PM EST Wednesday, December 16, 2009, and there's still no baseball field for the Marshall University Baseball team, nor does there seem to be a plan in place to get one built.

And finally... It's time for the View From Press Row Girl of the Week, and this week's winner is...
